In December 2026, wind farm developers will be able to apply for permits to build and operate two new Dutch offshore wind farms. Specifically, for Wind Farm Sites Gamma-A and Gamma-B in the IJmuiden Ver Wind Farm Zone (IJVWFZ).
In January 2026, the Government announced the tender for IJV Site Gamma-A. It has now been announced that the tender rounds for both IJV Gamma-A and -B will open for permit applications simultaneously. The wind farm sites can each accommodate 1 gigawatt (GW) of capacity. The tenders are an important step in accelerating the transition to renewable energy and reducing reliance on imports.
Once the wind farms are completed, they will both be connected to the same offshore substation platform operated by TenneT. The generated electricity will be transported to the mainland via this platform. Connecting the wind farms simultaneously is the most efficient approach, optimising use of the offshore grid, as well as being less labour intensive and more time efficient.
Following the new announcement, the opening date for IJV Gamma-A permit applications has been postponed. Both tender rounds will now open and close in December 2026, giving developers ample time to prepare their applications.
RVO expects to award the permits in the first quarter of 2027, with the wind farms scheduled to become operational in 2032.
