Name
E - Regional opportunities for CO2 storage (CCS), utilization (CCU), or removal (CDR)
Description

The Gulf region holds significant potential for reducing CO₂ emissions. This is because the region is home to many industrial sectors—such as cement, steel, aluminum, and chemicals—that account for a large share of emissions.

As these industrial clusters are geographically close to one another, infrastructure for CO₂ transport and storage can be developed and shared efficiently. Furthermore, the region possesses favorable geological conditions for large-scale CO₂ storage. For the Netherlands, the best opportunities lie in contributing to the development of large-scale systems and infrastructure—such as designing CO₂ networks and storage sites, and monitoring emissions, regulations, and agreements.
