Name
1.1 Powering Africa's Digital Leap: Energy, AI Infrastructure and the Next Wave of Digital Economy Solutions
Description

Africa's digital transformation is entering a new phase, one defined less by connectivity and more by compute, power, and trust. As hyperscale AI infrastructure investments (from Cassava Technologies' AI Factories to Microsoft, Google and NVIDIA-backed data centre projects) roll out across South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria, the binding constraint is shifting to something more fundamental: reliable energy. This session unpacks the practical realities of Africa's digital and AI infrastructure build-out, where energy, compute and data sovereignty intersect, and moves from infrastructure to impact, examining how digital payments, digital identity and other tech-enabled solutions are reshaping economic inclusion and growth. The session identifies where Dutch private sector expertise (energy systems, connectivity, agritech-fintech, identity and payments infrastructure) can add the most value, and which markets are ready for it now. Countries of Focus: Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt/Morocco, South Africa
